Director of Student Success

The Partnership for Education Advancement (Ed Advancement) is a 501(c)(3) that supports Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through sustainable approaches that transform enrollment, institutional performance, and student success. Our collaborative efforts are aimed to advance socioeconomic mobility for historically under-resourced students and maintain and extend the impact of HBCUs as unique and critical drivers of racial equity and social justice. 

The Director of Student Success will serve as a strategic thought partner, experienced leader, and member of the management team. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success, this position requires a deep understanding of college student success strategies and operations. 

The Director will define and manage the overall delivery of student success services to participating higher education institutions. These services may be specific to an individual school or provided on a shared services basis. Successful outcomes involve effective management of Ed Advancement staff resources, third-party service providers, and vendors in cooperation with appropriate school leadership and stakeholders. The Director of Student Success represents the best interests of our school partners while being a thoughtful steward of Ed Advancement’s mission. You must be a self-starter, have a keen eye for detail, strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills, exceptional organizational and technical skills, and thrive working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. 



  • Collaborate with university representatives to establish strategic student success initiatives that are consistent with the institution’s goals of retaining and graduating students. 

  • Provide leadership in statistical modeling and analyses of institutional, state, and national data to support retention and graduation initiatives and decision-making.  This includes maintaining knowledge of student success strategies, data-informed models, national trends, and the effective leveraging of student financial aid resources. 

  • Design administrative processes that are flexible, creative, and responsive to the institution’s retention and graduation needs. 

  • Facilitate collaboration between academic departments, administrative units, and student services units from across campus to support the institution’s retention and graduation goals. 



  • Expertise in higher education student success initiatives. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to create high-quality deliverables for wide-scale use with accuracy and superior attention to detail. 

  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop, maintain, and drive/manage long- and short-term projects and meet specific deadlines.  

  • Creativity and ability to take ownership and work independently on projects where limited direction might be provided.

  • A strong customer service focus and a high level of professionalism when interacting with internal and external constituents are required.  

Experience and Education

  • Extensive knowledge of student success, retention, financial aid, graduation and academic policies, practices, and procedures. 

  • Relevant experience in setting strategy and vision for projects as well as meeting key performance indicators, preferably with HBCUs. 

  • Experience building strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders. 

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 8-10 years full-time relevant work experience required; advanced degree preferred.  

Skills and Technical Knowledge: 

  • Ability to work in a fast paced and evolving environment 

  • Ability to problem solve multi-faceted issues in a time-sensitive context  

  • Management of concurrent projects across multiple school partners 

  • Ability to measure and track outcomes and analyze data 

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and ability to utilize other applications as required 

  • Ability to effectively work and contribute on a team with multiple constituents who may frequently engage via video conferencing and phone 

Additional Information


  • Ed Advancement works nationally with offices in New York City and Washington D.C. This can be a remote-based position; must be able to work successfully in a remote yet active work environment. 

Working Conditions and Other Requirements: 

  • This is a full-time, exempt position. 

  • Position will involve confidential information and highly sensitive matters. Must handle sensitive matters with tact and discretion. Must securely manage all data and non-public information. 

  • Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required. 

  • Local and non-local travel (up to 25%) required.
