Associate Director of Enrollment and Retention Services

The Partnership for Education Advancement (Ed Advancement) is a 501(c)(3) that supports Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through sustainable approaches that transform enrollment, institutional performance, and student success. Our collaborative efforts are aimed to advance socioeconomic mobility for historically under-resourced students and maintain and extend the impact of HBCUs as unique and critical drivers of racial equity and social justice. 

The Associate Director of Enrollment and Retention Services will join the Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMSS) team as an experienced higher education enrollment management professional. 

The Associate Director will collaborate with internal resources and work with HBCU partner institutions to deliver and implement all services and capabilities within the EMSS functional area. This work involves overseeing and providing input and assessment regarding the delivery of enrollment, retention, and student success solutions to partner schools, including but not limited to third-party service providers, independent consultants, and Ed Advancement developed solutions. To succeed in this role, you will bring significant experience and insight related to enrollment and retention functions as well as strategic acumen, operational excellence, and a service-centered mindset. You must be a self-starter, have a keen eye for detail, strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills, exceptional organizational and technical skills, and thrive working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.  


  • Under the guidance of EMSS leadership, coordinate capacity-building projects with institutional leaders; develop project scopes based on each institution’s needs and oversee the solutions matching process 

  • Facilitate meetings, provide support to, and serve as the primary EMSS services and initiatives point of contact for partner HBCUs, vendors/service providers, and independent consultants 

  • Lead the day-to-day execution of EMSS’ institutional-facing projects; use professional judgement to solve day-to-day concerns and work with EMSS leadership to innovate solutions and design improvements 

  • Collaborate with other members of the Ed Advancement team to represent the EMSS functional area in Ed Advancement shared projects, technology solutions, and working groups (e.g., CRM, etc.) 

  • Manage EMSS project paperwork, order forms, and deliverables

  • Create and oversee project plans; input, track, and maintain EMSS project schedule and status in Ed Advancement’s CRM and project management tools; provide regular updates to the EMSS and greater Ed Advancement team 

  • Assist in creating meaningful presentations and reports with clear insights and actionable takeaways 



  • Knowledge of college/university enrollment, retention, and student success functions 

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills 

  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task 

  • Ability to think creatively, analyze information, solve problems, and produce innovative solutions to complex issues, and apply judgment concerning communications and confidentiality while displaying the highest level of customer service 

  • Must work effectively with a diverse community 


Experience and Education: 

  • Demonstrated project management experience 

  • Direct experience at or familiarity with HBCU environments desired 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with five or more years full-time related professional experience required 

  • Six or more years’ experience working in admissions, enrollment, student success, or related area in a college or university setting preferred 


Skills and Technical Knowledge: 

  • Intermediate or advanced level proficiency in standard desktop applications is highly desired, including producing documents and presentations using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 

  • Demonstrated experience with project management software 

  • Familiarity with customer relationship management databases (Slate CRM preferred), data management, analysis, and reporting 

  • Ability to effectively work and contribute on a team with multiple constituents who may frequently engage via video conferencing and phone 

Additional Information


  • Ed Advancement works nationally with offices in New York City and Washington D.C. This can be a remote-based position; must be able to work successfully in a remote yet active work environment. 

Working Conditions and Other Requirements: 

  • This is a full-time, exempt position. 

  • Position will involve confidential information and highly sensitive matters. Must handle sensitive matters with tact and discretion. Must securely manage all data and non-public information. 

  • Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required. 

  • Local and non-local travel (up to 25%) required.
